Apink Succeeds With FIVE; Soompi’s K-Pop Music Chart 2017, July Week 4

The top three songs remain the same as last week but with a switch of positions. Apinks FIVE moves up two spots to No. 1 this week, overcoming MAMAMOOs Yes I Am and BLACKPINKs As If It’s Your Last. FIVE continues to have a strong showing on MBCs music programs, winning again last week on both Music Core and Show Champion. Apink also tops our Soompi Airplay this week to achieve an overall high score. Congratulations to Apink!

There are two new songs in the top 10 this week. Debuting at No. 5 is Red Velvets new song Red Flavor. This is the title track from Red Velvets summer mini-album The Red Summer. It is a bubbly and colorful dance track with an electronic sound. The lyrics compare the hot summer season and the thrill of love with the color red. Red Flavor has a very high chance to become our new No. 1 song next week.

Moving back up one spot to No. 2 is BLACKPINKs As If It’s Your Last. This song has been competing with MAMAMOOs Yes I Am and Apinks FIVE for the top spot on the chart. While the latter two songs are no longer in the top three, As If It’s Your Last has made a rebound this week.

Five years ago, Gangnam Style took the world by storm, so its no surprise that the title songs of his new album have immediately become chart topping hits. I LUV IT is one of two title songs from PSYs eighth album 42=8. PSY is teaming up with Block Bs Zico for the first time in composing this song. Its a delightful electronic house style song, and the lyrics also show PSYs sensitive characteristic as well as an exciting hook.

Moving up 12 spots to take second this week is SEVENTEENs Dont Wanna Cry. This song is SEVENTEENs highest charting song so far in their career. It is the title track of their fourth mini-album A11 and is a dance song with an EDM sound and an addictive melody. The lyrics describe young men holding back their tears after their first experience of deep sorrow. Don’t Wanna Cry won on Music Bank last week, preventing SIGNAL to sweep all the music shows.
