When a automobiletwist of fate in September of 2014killed Ladies' Code contributors EunB and RiSe, some fanatics wondered if the band even may continue in the wake of such an unspeakable tragedy.
On Tuesday, surviving Ladies' Code members, Ashley, Sojung and Zuny, spoke backthat question resoundingly in the affirmative with "Galaxy," the mesmerizingly genre-busting leadoff unmarried from the K-pop woman group's new three-song EP "Myst3ry."
Gone is the younger exuberance of former hits like "Pretty Pretty" or "Kiss Kiss" and instead is a more experimental and emotionally evolved sound this is arresting in its restrained blend of sounds and styles.
As strings swell and the vocals echo into the distance, it's fartransparent the track Ladies' Code and manufacturer Mono Tree are making is frivolous kid stuff. Rather, those are artists now not just having a lookto give coverage to their legacy, yet to honor their past due bandmates the maximum efficient style they can--by evolving as musicians and other folks and striking the fight into the music.
That's not to mention the music sounds morose or overburdened with expectation. It israther the opposite; "Galaxy" is as mild on its feet as a cat in pajamas. But it is most unlikely not to recognize that these 3 artists have grown up.
The exciting thing for any longtime fan is this nightmare has looked as though IT would make the crowd more musically adventurous than ever.
The way "Galaxy" starts every bit dreamy electronica, drops an old-school hip-hop hook earlier than jumping into funk and then jazz, with even a jump between electric and upright bass, recalls cutting edge artist like D'Angelo, Kendrick Lamar or Flying Lotus, makes it clean this staffisn'tgambling it safe.
It's challenging to think of a higher means of honoring EunB and Upward push then to continue to take the band they worked so hard to take to the head of the South Korean music scene to new and exciting places.
In this and such so much of ways, "Galaxy" is a resounding success.
