G-Dragon has shown people what makes BIGBANG different from other popular groups such as EXO and Shinee

G-Dragon Differentiates BIGBANG from Other Groups Like EXO or SHINee On the June 18 broadcast of JTBC’s “News Room,” BIGBANG member G-Dragon sat down for an interview with well-respected anchorman Sohn Suk Hee.

During the interview, Sohn Suk Hee asked, “What would you say is the difference between BIGBANG and other competing groups like EXO or SHINee, who have also released albums and are currently promoting?”

G-Dragon answered, “The difference is that we make our own songs, and our music appeals well to the public, and the public also likes these songs.”

The anchorman added, “Don’t you think the fans of EXO and SHINee will be angry at this statement?” to which G-Dragon responded, “They could get angry, but there’s nothing I can do because it’s the truth.”

Sohn Suk Hee continued, “It seems that [making your own songs] is important.” In response, the BIGBANG member shared, “It can’t be unimportant. For me personally, if I were to sing a song that I received from another composer, I wouldn’t have confidence. I’m not sure about other people, but because I have always expressed myself through the songs I make from a young age, I would be lacking in expression [when singing other people’s songs] compared to other singers.”

Big Bang's G-Dragon Discusses His Love For The Punk Aesthetic At His 'Space Eight' Art Exhibition, Opening Tuesday

Big Bang's G-Dragon Discusses His Love For The Punk Aesthetic At His 'Space Eight' Art Exhibition, Opening Tuesday

Big Bang's G-Dragon Discusses His Love For The Punk Aesthetic At His 'Space Eight' Art Exhibition, Opening Tuesday At a press conference held one day before the opening for the new G-Dragon art exhibition Space Eight at the Cais Gallery in Seoul, G-Dragon explained why he enjoys dressing in the punk style. In the music video for the new G-Dragon single "Crooked," the Big Bang rapper is seen running around London in t-shirts emblazoned with images ubiquitous in the punk movement, such as the Sex Pistols song "Anarchy In The UK" and the band logo for seminal group Black Flag, rewritten in the same font as "Rich Kids."

At a press conference held one day before the opening for the new G-Dragon art exhibition "Space Eight" at the Cais Gallery in Seoul, G-Dragon explained why he enjoys dressing in the punk style.

"Producing is not only a matter of music, but also a worry of how people will see me on the stage," G-Dragon explained.

"The thing I worry about the most is that when G-Dragon goes on the stage, what kind of image will be the best. Taking 'Crooked' as an example from this album, I think it fits me well. I like the kind of punk-ish image."

Big Bang's frontman believes he brings an outsiders perspective to all of his musical endeavors.

"I'm not sure how it appears, but whether its the music, the stage, or the styling, the base is holding the punky image," G-Dragon said.

"Whether I'm singing a sad song, or a powerful one, the way I define it is still kind of loser-ish. But fortunately, the public seems to think it's cute. I mean, I am still pretty young."

And while G-Dragon, who is currently enjoying international success with his two solo albums "Coup d'Etat" part one and part two released this month, admitted that a time may come when he may have to dress in a more mature fashion, the rapper said he is enjoying himself for the time being.

"Either way, when I get older, I will have to improve. But until then, these are the clothes that fit me right and because the public likes it, I'm just soaking into it," he said.

"Space Eight" will officially open to the public on September 10, eight days after the release of "Coup D'Etat," one of a series of numerically based choices the South Korean rapper made for the art exhibition.

"G-Dragon will be showcasing 88 items related to number eight, which symbolizes himself, including unrevealed photographs from his photo albums and jackets, along with outfits and props from the [One Of A Kind] World Tour," the rapper's record label YG Entertainment announced last month.

"G-Dragon, born on August 18, 1988, always told people his lucky number is eight. Thus the gallery will be open for eight hours a day for eight days, and the entrance fee is 8,800 won [roughly eight dollars]."

Big Bang's G-Dragon talked about his band's struggle to get their visual image together last week in a March 22 interview on the program "Thank You."

"When we first came out as Big Bang, the public commented that our visual [look] was bad even though we are supposed to be idols," G-Dragon said. "But I was okay with that because I already heard that so many times from our CEO [Yang Hyun-suk], so I was already used to it!"

The K-pop star said it wasn't until additional Big Bang bandmembers Daesung, T.O.P, and Seungri joined the group, that their image started to gel he said.

However G-Dragon said, he didn't realize that the additional three bandmembers were an asset to Big Bang right away.

"When I first saw Daesung, I was extremely surprised," G-Dragon said. "When I saw T.O.P, I thought, 'Why is he with us?' Then I saw Seungri and thought again, 'and him also, why is he with us?'"

In the end, G-Dragon, who had originally thought Big Bang was going to be a hip hop duo with other founding member Taeyang, warmed up to his new bandmates.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

The Big Bang singer also opened up in the interview about his admiration and respect for YG Entertainment CEO and former Seo Taiji and Boys bandmember Yang Hyun-suk.

In addition to Big Bang, YG Entertainment is also the label for international K-Pop sensation Psy.

G-Dragon called label boss Yang Hyun-suk his "best partner in life."

"Even though he will intensely criticize me to my face, he always supports me from the back," the Big Bang bandmember said. "I think that's how I was able to become who I am now...if I do something wrong, he criticizes me. But he always praises me from the back. When I get praised by him after I get criticized, I receive even more strength."

The K-Pop icon even opened up about his love of ballet.

"During my school days, I attended a performing arts middle and high school," G-Dragon said. "The female students who majored in dancing and ballet looked pretty in my eyes."

Ballerina Kang Soo Jin, who was sitting next to G-Dragon during the "Thank You" interview, smiled at the Big Bang singer's comment.

"I want to have a daughter," he added. "And if I were to have a daughter, I would like it if she learned ballet."
