The new reality show Idol School is set to begin very soon, and the show’s producing director (PD) has spoken up about comparisons with popular competition show Produce 101.

Like Produce 101, the upcoming show Idol School is aiming to form a new idol group with viewers voting on which of the participants will debut.

The show’s PD Shin Yoo Sun explained at a press conference on July 12, While ‘Produce 101’ is a survival program in which viewers watch how well trainees can do, ‘Idol School’ is a reality show in which viewers watch ordinary people as they develop.

Mnets girl group school project Idol School is taking shape!

Mnet said on June 16, Idol School will air its first episode on July 13. The time slot is yet to be determined. The show was going initially going to air in the place of I Can See Your Voice 4, but now they are looking at a variety of different possible time slots.

Meanwhile, Idol School will be Koreas first girl group education institution. Students will undergo 11 weeks of training and after graduation, the top students will debut as a girl group right away in the second half of 2017.

'Idol School' has received backlash from netizens complaining about how overly sexual the show has become. There were comments regarding the show using a distasteful 'Lolita' concept, depicting the girls in very provocative school uniforms, and even spraying the girls' white t-shirts with water during a recording. Heechul also appears on the show as a mentor to the new trainees and had revealed his opinion on the matter.
