'Idol Star Athletics Championship' claims filming will go on despite loss of staff resulting from general strike

On August 31, a representative from 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' (ISAC) claimed that filming for the upcoming Chuseok special will go on, despite its loss of staff.

Previously, numerous MBC employees including lead PDs of popular variety programs like 'Infinity Challenge', 'I Live Alone', and more decided to resign from their positions in order to participate in a mass general strike, which will be launching on September 4. A total of 1,568 employees are expected to take part in the strike by stepping down from their duties.

MBC's 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' has officially been green lit!

According to a broadcast affiliate on August 16, the popular variety program will hold a recording session on September 4 and 11, where participants will film for a new sports category - bowling.

Previously, the show had been riddled with concerns regarding the injuries of participants.  As a result, the show will be removing futsal and wrestling and instead replace it with rhythmic dancing and aerobics, hoping to lessen close combat. Nonetheless, fans will get to see various idol stars on the program practicing a wide range of sports.

Contrary to MBC's previous claims that 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' will go on regardless of the ongoing general strike, filming for the Chuseok special variety program has been postponed.

This year's 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' was scheduled to be filmed on September 4 and September 11. September 4 also marks the date that MBC employees will officially launch their mass general strike against the broadcasting station, with approximately1,568 employees expected to step down from all of their duties.

2017 Idol Star Athletics Championships has temporarily been put on hold as employees of MBC prepare to go on strike.

MBC had previously announced on August 30 that filming for their biannual holiday special would continue as planned on September 4 and 11 despite the company-wide strike that is set to begin on September 4.

However, MBC retracted their original statement on September 2 and announced, The September 4 filming has been temporarily put on hold. We are still in discussions about the September 11 filming and have not come to a final decision on the overall schedule.

According to an exclusive report on September 2, MBC's 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' has chosen a new filming date for the Chuseok special of the program.

The report claimed that MBC has reached out to various artists and their respective labels with the date of September 18, to film the bowling segment of the program. However, if artists who were originally scheduled to participate in the bowling segment already have prior commitments for September 18, the date may prove to be problematic for the show.
