[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Lee Byung-hun to star in Kim Eun-sook's period drama, "Mr. Sunshine"

Lee Byung-hun will finally make a comeback to the small screen in "Mr. Sunshine", the latest from Kim Eun-sook, the writer of "Goblin" and "Descendants of the Sun".

When Kim Eun-sook recently announced her latest project, "Mr. Sunshine", she added that she already had an actor in mind for the lead role. She probably had some inkling at the time that the latest in a long line of enviable leading men would be Lee Byung-hun. Set in the early 1900s, "Mr. Sunshine" tells the story of a star-crossed love between a common soldier in the resistance movement against the Japanese occupation and an aristocrat's daughter.

Writer Kim who has presented Song Joong-ki and Gong Yoo with life characters in "Descendants of the Sun" and "Goblin" is expected to do the same to Lee Byung-hun. We take a look at "Mr. Sunshine" starring Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-ri and Yoo Yeon-seok.

First of all, "Mr. Sunshine" is based in the 1900s, a turbulent era of our history. Like previously mentioned, this history wasn't recorded but it is about the nameless fighters that we should remember.

Just months after finishing work on "Goblin", Kim Eun-sook is already back at work with new project, "Mr. Sunshine".

Set in the early 20th century, "Mr. Sunshine" tells the story of a star-crossed love between a common soldier in the resistance movement against the Japanese occupation and an aristocrat's daughter. There's no word on casting yet, so feel free to fantasize about who you'd like to see in some fantastic period clothing in a time of great turmoil in Korea. Don't get too attached to your selection, though; Kim Eun-sook already has an actor in mind, though she has yet to reveal any names. Not surprising, since she's just about to start work on the script and the drama is in the very early stages of pre-production.

The Conclusion of Lee Byung-huns Blackmail Scandal

It seems there is finally some resolution to the Lee Byung-hun scandal that erupted in August of 2014. On Thursday January 15, a Seoul court sentenced Kim Da-hee and Lee Ji-yeon to one year, and one year two months of jail time, respectively, for their participation in the blackmailing of actor Lee Byung-hun.

The scandal began in August of 2014 when Lee Byung-hun turned to law enforcement claiming he was being blackmailed for a sum of 5 billion Korean Won by GLAM member Da-hee and model Lee Ji-yeon. The two women had supposedly threatened to release a video/cell phone recording of the three drinking together while carrying on conversations perceived as too lewd and inappropriate for a married man and two women nearly half his age. Lee Byung-huns representatives did not deny that Lee was familiar with the two women, but claimed their relationship was purely as acquaintances who met through mutual friends.

"Mr. Sunshine" is a human mellow film about the army that isn't recorded in history but we must remember about, based in the 1990s. It is written by Kim Eun-sook and directed by Lee Eung-bok.

Lee Byeong-heon was cast earlier on and his co-star will be Kim Tae-ri.

Chemistry between the two is highly anticipated and her role in "The Handmaiden" helped to land her this role.

"Mr. Sunshine" will be released in early 2018.
