Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun Request for Termination of Their Contracts with Chinese Water Company after Controversy

Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun Request for Termination of Their Contracts with Chinese Water Company after Controversy

Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun Request for Termination of Their Contracts with Chinese Water Company after Controversy Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun, the stars of the hugely popular drama “Man from the Stars,” were recently caught in controversy concerning their recent endorsement with Hongda Group’s mineral water company Hongda Bingchuan (恒大氷泉).

The issue centers around the fact that the source of the water was named as Changbai Mountain. Changbai is the Chinese name for Baekdu Mountain, a mountain between the border of North Korea and China. This arose as a problem, as many think of this as stemming from China’s Northeast Project, which is an academic project that claims and aims to prove that historical Korean kingdoms were part of and under the control of China. The issue is a political one, and many are raising their voices in favor of the opinion that the choice of naming the mountain Changbai instead of Baekdu is an attempt to express the area around the mountain as under Chinese influence. Moreover, there is the opinion that Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun are being used as tools in China’s Northeast Project.

After their respective agencies made public apologies for neglecting to check the name of the water source, Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun requested to the company that their contracts be terminated, with full understanding that cancellation of the contract will result in fees of potentially several hundred million won.

This isn’t the first time there has been an issue with the naming of Baekdu Mountain. Netizens previously criticized the company Nongshim for labeling the source of water on the water distributed in China as Changbai Mountain, as well.

Baekdu Mountain was in fact called Changbai (JangBaek) Mountain for a long time, by both China and Korea. The so-called equation of Changbai (JangBaek) equals Northeast Project equals traitor came about in 2005, when China’s half of Baekdu Mountain, previously managed by the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, moved under the maintenance of the Jilin Provincial Government. Previously, Baekdu Mountain, as a result of the 1962 Sino-Korean border treaty, was split in half between China and North Korea.

Oh Jong Hyuk's Cigarette on "Law of the Jungle" Causes Yet Another Controversy

Oh Jong Hyuk's Cigarette on "Law of the Jungle" Causes Yet Another Controversy

Oh Jong Hyuks Cigarette on Law of the Jungle Causes Yet Another ControversySBSs survivor format reality show  Law of the Jungle  is swept up in yet another controversy and this time, its because one of the shows cast members was caught holding a cigarette during broadcast.

On August 2, Law of the Jungle aired its Caribbean episode where singer and actor Oh Jong Hyuk was captured with a cigarette.

Airing footage of someone holding a cigarette without a mosaic or blur is a problem but the bigger issue is that the particular scene where Oh Jong Hyuk was seen with a cigarette was when the cast members were trying to make a fire from scratch. This led viewers to think, If someone is able to smoke a cigarette, why couldnt they make a fire, causing doubts over the authenticity of the program to rise up once again.

On August 4, the Law of the Jungle staff made an official statement through the SBS homepage by saying, Airing the footage of a cast member holding a cigarette on the August 2 broadcast was an accident. This is an editing mistake and we give our deepest apologies to the viewers, and We will be more careful so this doesnt happen again.

They continued, Law of the Jungle is a program that was created to show viewers how to survive in the wilderness, and When the cast members were trying to make a fire, they were following the programs intentions. They voluntarily used the fire stills and did not use any other method, putting the doubts to a rest.

While many have been criticizing Oh Jong Hyuk for smoking, many have been defending him as well. A large group of netizens have been defending Oh Jong Hyuk, saying that he shouldnt be criticized as harshly since he is one of the celebrities who served the military as a regular soldier and not as a celebrity PR soldier. These opinions seem to be gathering even more because of the recent celebrity military scandals.

Previously, Law of the Jungle faced many controversies, especially regarding the credibility of the show. For the New Zealand special, Park Bo Youngs director posted negative things about the show, which caused netizens to doubt the programs true nature.

Actor Jung Suk Won experiences some tension with netizens regarding the recent controversy of Laws of the Jungle Actor Jung Suk Won experiences some tension with netizens regarding the recent controversy of Laws of the Jungle

Actor Jung Suk Won experienced some tension with netizens regarding the recent controversy surrounding SBSs Laws of the Jungle.

Jung Suk Won tweeted, The reason we jumped into the cold ocean and ran under the hot sun with fire in our eyes wasnt because a camera was in front of us. It was because we were hungry. It was our struggle together with the tribe members to win against the cold and hunger, in order to clarify that what the cast members feel and experience on their trips are completely pure, not faked for the sake of broadcast.

He also added, The happiness equaled to that of  the 2 years memory of the marine task force. I swear with all ten fingers. I dont know too much, but the message that Laws of the Jungle wants to send to the viewers is about the life of human beings. Not a lie.

After reading his tweet, one netizen responded, Just stay quiet. The viewers arent stupid. Jung Suk Won replied, Please give me your number. Via message.

The netizen also replied, You go to a tourist attraction and meet a native whom you can pay to meet and air it as if you explored the wild, thats why theyre saying its fake. Before you get a phone number, you should know why the viewers are angry.

Jung Suk Won again replied with, So give me your number ^^

Another netizen commented, Are you trying to meet in person and beat him up. Stop doing immature things. Jung Suk Won explained himself by saying,It would be terrible if I beat someone up. I was trying to have a conversation.

As mentioned before, the ongoing controversy was sprouted from the comments made by the head of actress Park Bo Youngs agency. Netizens then started to dig into the validity of the show, and the show recently issued an apology. While they admitted that there are situations that have been exaggerated for the sake of the entertainment factor of the show, they also stressed that nothing has been fabricated and the struggle you see the cast members go through on camera is real.

Park Bo Young Returns from New Zealand and Apologizes for Recent Controversy Surrounding "Rules of the Jungle"

Park Bo Young Returns from New Zealand and Apologizes for Recent Controversy Surrounding "Rules of the Jungle"

Park Bo Young Returns from New Zealand and Apologizes for Recent Controversy Surrounding Rules of the Jungle Actress Park Bo Young has recently returned to Korea from New Zealand after shooting for SBS variety program, Rules of the Jungle, and shared her thoughts on the recent controversy that was caused by her agency regarding the show. She said, Im deeply sorry to cause any misunderstandings.

On February 11, Park Bo Young spoke with the news media at Incheon Airport and said, Even though I knew filming in New Zealand wouldnt be easy, it was harder than I thought. So I think my small complaints became misinterpreted, and I shouldnt have caused any misunderstandings but since I did, Im very sorry.

She continued, After this happened, I talked to Kim Byung Man and the other staff members and cleared up these misunderstandings. They comforted me a lot, and Because we worked hard during the shoot and because it was fun, I think we will be able to show you many good things on broadcast.

The controversy started when Park Bo Youngs agency director Mr. Kim, who went along with her to New Zealand, posted some negative things about the show on his personal Facebook account on February 5. He criticized the show, which caused the public to question the credibility of the show itself.

Mr. Kim posted, This program is a damn joke, They force you to eat things, they capture animals and let them loose around the set and they try to film the reactions off of that? and They just pick a country they want to leisurely travel to and drink about 1000 dollars worth of beer in a hotel all night, criticizing the nature of the show.

After these posts became publicized on the media, Mr. Kim made another post on February 7. He wrote, Im sorry to cause any misunderstandings. It seemed like Bo Young was having such a hard time that I felt so sad and sorry. After filming all night, I felt a lot of resentment so I acted poorly.

SBS also reacted to this by saying, Mr. Kim posted his personal feelings during a state of intoxication but what he said is not true, and The team had to move to a hotel because of a sudden storm and they decided to drink beer to raise the teams morale. This is a completely plausible thing that could happen during filming and moving around, as they emphasized that there is no problem with the credibility of Rules of the Jungle.
