AKDONG MUSICIAN – SUMMER EPISODE

"DINOSAUR" is basically, like most tracks in K-pop these days, tropical house. Well, that's to be expected as most tropical house tunes are just the perfect fit for summer. Even though it is following the trend, the tune does have some uniqueness to it, in that they don't go for the usual faux reggae beat that's so common for that musical style. Instead, they still do them. The tune is cute, talking about a dinosaur that used to menace them and their family in their dreams. A sweet, playful tune.

RED VELVET – THE RED SUMMER – Summer Mini Album

Red Velvet brings the sizzle to the season with their new summer release 'The Red Summer!' Known for tracks like "Dumb Dumb" and "Rookie," the band now has a new EP. Their newest mini-album has five new tracks, including the title track "Red Flavor."

"Red Flavor" doesn't really resonate with me as much as it could. It's bright, poppy, cheerful, and altogether summery. It's also catchy as all get out. I like the beginning a lot, but I don't think the song flows as well as I'd want. I think the chorus is the best part by far, and I heart the bridges and ad-libs. But the main verses are odd: it seems like each line either has too many words or not enough to fill out the melody.

[MV & Album Review] G-Friend – 'Rainbow / Summer Rain'

Hot on the heels of the successful 'Love Whisper,' G-Friend is back again with the repackage album 'Rainbow.' This has all the tracks you love from 'Love Whisper,' plus two brand new tracks, "Summer Rain" and the titular "Rainbow." Since the original album has already been reviewed, we're going to just focus on the two new songs.

The title track is "SUMMER RAIN," a refreshing balladic tune that makes a really good fall track. It's not technically autumn yet, so it falls into that gray area. It starts out with a pretty classical vignette, and then quickly acquires a beat and some subtle sampled scratchings. These kinds of beautiful songs are what G-Friend does best, and that is exemplified here. The angelic vocals, along with the occasional rain effects, help make this song pop.

4. Can't Love You Anymore (feat. Oh Hyuk)

After her turn in the hit drama 'Scarlet Heart Ryeo,' IU has dropped her new LP 'Palette!' Her fourth full-length album features 10 tracks in all, with lyrics written by IU herself. She also gets some help from Kim Eana ("Red Shoes") on "Dear Name" and Sam Kim on "Ending Scene." Oh Hyuk and G-Dragon lend their voices to a couple tracks as well. The pre-release tracks "Jam Jam" and "Through the Night" round out the tracklist.
