NINE MUSES – MUSES DIARY PART.2 : IDENTITY

Nine Muses turns a new page in their diary with the release of their EP 'Muses Diary Part.2 : Identity.' Hitmaker Jung Chang Wook ("Lip 2 Lip") is back, along with Avenger Seung and e.one. Together they've crafted the group's sixth mini-album to date.

"Identity" is one of those intro tracks that wakes you up and makes you pay attention. They really turned things up to 11 here, with echoes of their title track and a scorching metal guitar riff. More intro tracks need to be this good.

[MV & Album Review] Dream Catcher – 'Prequel/Fly High'

Dream Catcher has just dropped their first ever mini-album. Rising from the ashes of dance-pop outfit Minx, they debuted in January with a new concept and new sound. Renowned for the singles "Chase Me" and "Good Night," Dream Catcher unveils five new songs on their 'Prequel' EP.

"BeforeAfter" is their intro song and it's uncharacteristically pop-oriented for Dream Catcher.  The track gets pretty bass-heavy when it gets going, and it's slightly unsettling as well, which sets the tone nicely for the rest of the disc.

6. (Bonus Track) Trigger the fever

The follow-up to their earlier single "Chewing Gum," NCT Dream beats the heat with a summer comeback. Their first mini-album features six songs from NCT's youngest subunit, including a bonus track and a Chinese version of the title track. Unfortunately, Jaemin will be sitting out for this promotional cycle due to health issues.

The lead single "We Young" is first up. This bubbly, upbeat tune is downright reggae during the main verses but quickly turns into a cheerful pop tune during the chorus. It's light, poppy, and fun. There are no amazing technical effects here, but the rap part is absolutely adorable (a strange characterization for a rap, but it is what it is). A fun song overall.

SONAMOO – HAPPY BOX PART.1

SONAMOO has dropped their new single album 'Happy Box Part.1.'  This single is the first of three planned releases, a new single each month for the next three months.

"So Good" is the intro track, or, at least it seems to be, despite it being a  completely different song in its own right. It clocks in 1:19, which is about the length you'd want for an intro, but it does little to presage what's to come.

The title track is the celebratory "Friday Night." An insistent piano riff and cheeky attitude characterize this song. It hits all the right notes as a club-banger, and I love how the girls sound here. They're bold and confident like never before, and their vocal power is just amazing when they hit the chorus. The fact that Newsun wrote the rap part is even cooler.

[Album Review] Daehyun x Jongup (B.A.P) – 'Party Baby'

DAEHYUN x JONGUP (B.A.P) – PARTY BABY

1. Shadow (Feat. Zelo) (Album Ver.)

In commemoration of their 2017 World Tour, B.A.P is releasing a collaboration between members Daehyun and Jongup, part of a special album project. The single contains two tracks: Daehyun's solo track "Shadow," and "Try MyLuck" sung by Jongup.

"Shadow" owes a ton to modern RB acts like Justin Timberlake or Drake. The beat template matches those two artists tremendously but it ends up sounding epic rather than generic. The falsetto is natural and organic, and actually one of the best parts of the song, though Zelo does an awesome rap here. There's a great hook in "Help me now... baby." Definitely singable and danceable and a nice touch to add "baby" to the chorus.
