NCT 127s Cherry Bomb is Eye-Catching but Poorly Constructed

NCT 127 is back with their newest title track, “Cherry Bomb”. NCT 127 is a sub-unit of SM Entertainment’s NCT U boy group configuration. NCT 127’s previous track, “Limitless,” managed to redeem the group’s initial scattered aesthetic direction. Anticipation is piquing for the groups new release, especially after Mark’s praise-worthy performances on High School Rapper.

A combination of strong electronic beats and a host of sound effects, “Cherry Bomb” is one tough sounding song. It is a track that definitely brings out the group’s desire to dominate every stage they stand on. The strong, tough side of NCT 127 shines through especially when the track is coupled by an MV filled with stereotypical masculine images. “Cherry Bomb” comes as a shock not because of how stellar it is. Rather, it is a title track that attempts too many huge feats at once and succeeds at none. Such a statement applies not only to the track itself, but also to the MV’s construction.

We start with the title track, "Cherry Bomb," deemed unfit for broadcast by KBS. Sadly for them, that just makes me want to listen to it more. It's loud, it's dumb, and it has an easy hook. It should be good, but the chorus is too simplistic for me, and it doesn't flow well enough. And the line "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" really reminds me of this guy:
