Cheong Wa Dae has decided to open the road passing in front of the presidential office to the public starting next week.
Presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun told reporters on Thursday that people will be able to walk freely along the street at night and that he hopes the route will become a "popular hiking course in Seoul".
Cheong Wad Dae sits in handsome landscaped grounds at the foot of a wooded hill.
At present, the road closes to the public from 8 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. for security reasons. This will be the first time in some 50 years that the road is open around the clock.
