tvN Releases Unfortunate Statement Regarding Chinese Spin-Off Of Reply 1988

On August 1, tvN issued a formal statement regarding the sale of copyrights to their hit drama, Reply 1988.

Recently, a Chinese news source reported that a new series will be premiering this December. The source stated that the new drama will be the Chinese version of Reply 1988. The show will be set in the 1980s and will follow the story of a group of adolescents and their families as they grow up in a neighborhood together, which is what Reply 1988 is all about.

tvN speaks up about the Chinese version of 'Reply 1988'

After word about a Chinese version of 'Reply 1988' stirred up online communities, tvN spoke up to address whether or not the copyrights to the 3rd of the 'Reply' series has been sold.

tvN stated, "We have no record of selling the copyright to 'Reply 1998' to a Chinese broadcasting station. We are disappointed to hear that a similar program is in the works." 

Earlier, Chinese media outlets reported that a new Chinese series by the name of 'We Are Adolescents' will be the "Chinese version of 'Reply 1988'." The series will reportedly air some time this December via 'Anhui TV', and will take place in the 1980's, telling the stories of the youths of the era, centering around families and neighbors.

On April 28, Seoul Metropolitan Police revealed Yang Hyun Suk had been reported for altering his building in the Hapjeong neighborhood of the Mapo District without permission from the city, which violates construction laws. The YGE head was suspected of making alterations to floors in the office building to use as housing.
