Black Pink's 'BOOMBAYAH' edges out TWICE's 'Like OOH-AHH' as the most watched debut MV

Black Pinknow have the most-watched debut K-pop MV, as of May 31.

The title originally belonged to TWICEand "Like OOH-AHH", but Black Pink's "BOOMBAYAH" has now edged out ahead. At time of writing, TWICE's "Like OOH-AHH" has 158,308,030 views while "BOOMBAYAH" has158,502,272.

Black Pink reveals the group name Yang Hyun Suk used for them before debut

Black Pink shared about their group name on 'Cultwo Show'.

On the July 6 broadcast, Black Pink guested on the radio show with Heize. During the talk, Black Pink revealed, "Our sajangnim (boss) created the name for us. There was a temporary name before debut and that was Pink Punk. He coolly changed it and it became Black Pink."

Black Pink successfully hold their debut showcase at Budokan in Japan

On July 20, Black Pink successfully launched their debut showcase overseas at the prestigious venue Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun Suk also attended the special event to cheer for his girls.  He even surprised fans by posting a short video clip via Instagram, illustrating the exciting atmosphere.

The footage revealed Black Pink opening with their debut song "BOOMBAYAH" as the audience exploded with loud cheers.

Budokan is a large arena holding more than 10,000 seats and is exclusively reserved for top artists to perform.  Not even a year into their debut, it was impressive that Black Pink was able to hold their debut showcase at this well-respected venue.

Here are three questions the media members asked and the answers by the members.

What is your state of mind now that you are about to perform for the first time in Japan?

As Black Pink has never performed in front of their fans, Jennie said, "This is the first opportunity for us to meet our fans in Japan like this. We haven't done this even in Korea, so being able to do this at this big venue, I'm nervous already for the rehearsal."

Black Pink's Jennie shared about her long journey to debut. 

The members of Black Pink went through 4 -6 years of training under YG Entertainment. On the July 26 airing of 'Kim Shin Young's Hope Song at Noon', Jennie, who trained for 6 years, revealed, "I wondered if we could really make our debut. Our debut got delayed a lot. The preparation process got extended. I wondered, 'Would we really be debuting? Would we ever be coming out?'"
