BIGBANGhas been electedas a countrywide "Creative Icon" through the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism!

On August 2nd, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism declared thatBIGBANGhas been appointed as the ambassador of the country's new national brand: "Creative Korea."

As the creative ambassador,BIGBANGwill be involvedin the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics (from August 5th to August 21st), in addition the 2018 PyeongChang Iciness Games Olympics.

"Creative Korea" is the productof the ministry's efforts to building up Korea's national identity and may reestablish "Dynamic Korea" and "Imagine Your Korea" as the country's motto.

U-KISS to receive Special Hallyu Achievement Award from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism

U-KISS will receive a special achievement award in recognition for their contribution to the Hallyu Wave.

On the 19th, the boy group will attend Arirang TV‘s celebration event for their milestone of reaching over 100 Million clients. At the event, U-KISS will be awarded the ‘Special Hallyu Achievement Award‘ from the minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

Earlier this month U-KISS performed at the Tokyo Budokan in front of an estimated 10,000 fans, and like so has been continuously promoting their music.

A representative of U-KISS stated, “We’re very happy that we received this award which acknowledges us as an idol group that did our part in promoting Korean music. [U-KISS] will work harder not only in Korea, but overseas as well.

Meanwhile, U-KISS will release their new album ‘Stop Girl‘ on the 20th and plans to actively promote it in 10 countries including Thailand, Philippines, The United States, and China.

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to inspect all entertainment agenciesIn light of recent happenings surrounding sexual assaults of trainees in the entertainment business, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it will seek legislation to prevent exploitation of entertainment company trainees.

Kim Gapsu, a director-general of the Cultural Content Industry Office was noted to have said that "There is no system that protects trainees or star-wannabes from owners and staff members of agencies who force them to have sex. Of course, hallyu, or the Korean wave, contributed to boosting national brand power but abusive practices targeting young star-wannabes in the pop-culture industry have to be rooted out immediately.”

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be joining forces with the Korea Entertainment Producers’ Association and the Korea Entertainment Management Association for this matter. The two latter will also cooperate with the government, collecting basic information on music video crews, training agencies, and the amount of trainees each management company holds.

It was revealed that the ministry is set to inspect all agencies, with a goal to check whether any unfair practices against the trainees are in effect and to prevent more cases from happening.

Koreas Ministry of Culture and Tourism plans to build special venue for K-Pop artists

Koreas Ministry of Culture and Tourism is scheduled to hold a seminar on February 29th to discuss the need to construct a special arena-style venue, and to examine the direction it needs to go and what key issues they may face. Additionally, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will also announce its plans to construct a special venue for K-Pop artists.

The Ministry revealed through a press release on the 28th the difficulties that many popular K-Pop artists face in finding a big venue for their shows, stating The popular music market has increased over 74% in just the past year alone (the average annual increase is about 40%). Despite this impressive growth, the Olympic Stadium is the only indoor venue in Korea that is large enough to accommodate over 10,000 people.

They continued to explain the need to construct a large venue, saying Currently, a lot of domestic agencies are sending their artists on arena tours overseas, but in our own country the infrastructure for supporting popular culture is very poor and top musicians cannot properly express their passion and creativity in their own country due to limitations in stage setup, sound quality, lights, and facilities.

Also, the ministry elaborated that the government, in order to further aid K-Pop in becoming a global phenomenon and to spread its foundation, needs to establish a better venue infrastructure. The first step is to discuss the need to build an arena-style venue, the direction it should take, and any other key issues with professionals and experts in the music industry in order to receive varied feedback.

In addition to improving the K-Pop venue infrastructure, the Ministry also plans to construct a multimedia mega-facility with studios, rehearsal rooms, and 3D imaging equipment.
