[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Whisper" Episode 17 Final

The callousness never ends for our villains, who fight until the very end to turn things around for themselves and take one another down. Yeong-joo and Dong-joon's work is not done after his arrest, because there is always the trial. The time has come for everyone to pay for their sins and merits and we all know which ones owe the most. Meanwhile, Tae-gon makes a new friend in prison.

By now I am surprised that the villains are still trying. I understand why they are, but it is funny seeing Jeong-il (Kwon Yul) act cocky when he is no longer free to influence the evidence as he likes. There are several trails and people who can point to them on the outside. Then again, Jeong-il has not been playing with a full deck for a while, so perhaps this is just another manifestation of his madness.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "My Secret Romance" Episode 13 Final

As expected, the sweet flashbacks continue as "My Secret Romance" slowly but surely moves toward its happy ending. There is a bump in there as Yoo-mi decides to briefly abandon Jin-wook for reasons that aren't all that clear, but not to worry. Nothing beats the power of flashbacks. I expect excessive use of flashbacks also makes it easier on the production company, which doesn't have to spend as much money filming actual new scenes.

The main new content of note consists of Yoo-mi and Jin-wook reconciling with their mothers. This sort of works with Yoo-mi, underdeveloped though Mi-hee is as a character, because we did at least see from the very first episode that Yoo-mi has mother issues. Jin-wook is more tangential. While we always knew that he was harboring angst over the breakup of his parents' marriage, his mother has not had much story presence and her appearance here is just a tad out of nowhere.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "The King Loves" Episode 39-40 Final

Right up until the last minute, "The King Loves" is as contrived as ever. Because of course Prince Won and Prince Lin are the only two guys who can show up to stop Song-in from finishing her off. Of course one of themgets wounded on the way, forcing the other to confront Song-in on his own. The way they're acting one would think that Song-in was a trained assassin, not a random dignitary whose entire empire collapsed overnight because the queen made an unexpected visit to the king's personal chambers.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Save Me" Episode 16 Final

The Boat to Salvation is a slippery devil and the time has come for a solid shake on its not-so-divine structure. All of our characters choose their alliances and enact their final wishes as our heroine marches to her salvation and our heroes steel themselves to help end this once and for all. There are no ideal endings in this world, but perhaps small victories are enough.

I already expressed my thoughts on the obvious rush to the finish line in my previous piece and the drama's finale is the only reasonable extension of it. We never did find out who tried to kill Dong-cheol (Woo Do-hwan) in jail, why the political part of the series mattered, whether Guseonwon's water was drugged and more. There are many threads which I wish we had seen developed and which we did not.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Criminal Minds" Episode 20 (final)

Right away the finale for "Criminal Minds" tips its hand by accidentally pointing out the stupidity of its own premise. The suspect is in custody and there is...not actually any evidence linking him to the serial killings outside of the website, which he claims is a fan website. This is a completely plausible explanation. Yes, people have died from a serial killer who is imitating other serial killers' patterns. Buthow do we know the website isn't just a play-acting intended to help future forensic pathologists think like serial killers?
